Artist's Comments
This was my entry for the Skin-a-Scion contest.
Here's the base model (and primary reference photo) I used: [link] You can check out the background-less version of the image here: [link] Done completely in Photoshop CS3: 80+ hours -_- [Updated 8-6-07] Thanks to everyone who commented/critiqued on this; I really appreciated it. The most noticeable fixes are the reflection in the water, the addition of street lights, the addition of rain, adjustments to the lighting/reflections, and some other minor touch-ups. [EDIT] Sorry people, I had to reduce the size because of continuous art theft. I'll be shrinking and watermarking all my work from now on. |

I don't feel what you feel
I don't want to feel this incomplete
No one here can tell me
How to fill this space between
Everyone knows you're my one regret
Everyone knows you're my one weakness

It's given me a thirst
that's so hard to satisfy.

Hell is but a word my friend. A reality is much, much worse...
Your personal style has to get in everywhere, don't it?
Anyway, all joking aside, outstanding job. It's difficult to find anything to possibly look at to critique, though I managed to do okay. There are only a few things I noticed:
1 - on the bottom of the door, the fact that the bottom of the passenger door is almost unpainted (aside from the 'fold' of the torn page) seems to catch my eye every time I look at it. In particular considering it seems like her body ends right there, and the page is torn on the gap where the door meets the frame.
I have no idea how to fix that (other than adding a few dabbles of white to make it so that it seems less perfectly-edged) but it's something to consider.
2 - Personal preference, but I always hated the black carbon (I think that's what it's called) hoods.
3 - Seems like there's a bit too much blue glow on the right side. Like, the building on the right just isn't projecting enough light to be able to cause that much visual glow (on the EDGE of the car only, the rest is great) . Take that as you will.
4 - Biggest complaint is the foggy/smoggy background. It just seems to be out of place. Like, instead if it was a night sky with some greyish clouds, and there's tons of light all over the picture on the right and left, that would be different. But it seems like it's trying to be daytime with the perfect lighting on the car itself, with the reflection of the passenger window, the gap in the clouds shining with bright light through it, the buildings are all unlit and uncolored, etc. But on the other hand, the headlights are on, there's tail lights in the background, etc.
BUT! The point of the art piece is the car, and that's outstanding (Aside from the above). Even if you don't win, which would be a shock I assure you, this is still an awesome piece. Nice job.
