Or is it "Mechanics are a Mech's Best Friend"?
Trying my hand at another one of these design challenges at Infectious.com. The theme this time around was People and Robots. After watching District 9 I just had to draw a sweet bipedal mech. But this is more of a mishmash of lots of influences including Iron Man, Gundam, Robocop, Rotogin, Battlestar Galactica, Metal Gear, and heavy influences from various local dA mech pros including *MarkusVogt, `ukitakumuki, *slipgatecentral, *REAL-FIDUCIOSE among many others that slip my mind. No word yet on the results of the previous design challenge (the Mac Skin one); they'll announce the results early next month. Anyway, if you'd like this design to become available as a vinyl for your laptop, ipod, iphone, etc., then please head on over here and cast your vote: [link] Votin's a snap and even snappier if you're on Facebook. Daily DeviationGiven 2009-10-07Mechs are a Girl'sBestFriend by =transfuse reflects in an exagerated mode a reality we're about to live soon, since it's truth that day by day more girls prefer a technoligical gadget instead a diamond as present! Anyway, this beautiful piece has a great composition and message I loved since the very first time I saw it. Not only the character is lovely, but the robot has a curious and original design! Also, it’s clear to see just how much time was put into this wonderful picture. The detail is stunning, to the girl’s face and anatomy and the robot’s complexity- even the “danger” and “warning” signs are noticeable, as well as the mesh-like material that the girl’s shirt is made out of. The girl has a clear emotion on her face, showing her personality to be spunky and intelligent, while the robot reminds you that it is still just a hunk of metal regardless of the expression that it seems to give. The dusty and bleak, yet subtle background- which has very little detail- really puts focus on the two figures.
This piece is no less than inspiring, with the amount of sheer profession that is clear in it!
As always, Ivan's colors, shading and sense of shape and depth are exquisite, both characters are solidly grounded in their seemingly-destroyed surroundings, while at the same time, her small grin and over the shoulder look to her "pet" transport them from the bleak backdrop to a more whimsical location, perhaps where they are traveling to.
I like the overlapping duality of the human girl sporting her mechanical parts while her mechanical companion borders on a human shape. Additionally, the yellow painted highlights reflected in both characters' armor serves to tie the pair together into a cohesive pair, and set them emotionally apart from the barrenness of the rest of the image.
Overall a superb piece, worthy of not only the competition, but a place on any science fiction enthusiasts wall!
